Job summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking a Thermofluids Engineer to design and analyze gas turbine air, oil, fuel, and thermal management systems across the product lifecycle. The role combines concept, design, and in-service support within a defense-focused program.

The candidate will perform fluid flow, heat transfer, and thermo-mechanical analyses at whole-engine and sub-system levels, and will coordinate with project teams to meet requirements and certification standards. A security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 1+ years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree in Engineering OR JD/Ph.D.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Define requirements for fluid systems and thermal analysis, ensuring accurate and complete flow-down and capture of higher-level requirements pertaining to each engineering problem.
• Integrate thermofluid systems through interaction with all adjacent areas across the organization so thermofluid systems are optimized in ways that support other systems and components.
• Perform detailed fluid flow, heat transfer, and thermo-mechanical analysis at whole-engine, sub-system and component level, using appropriate methods and tools.
• Perform verification and validation activity to ensure requirements are written correctly and thermofluid aspects meet expectations; calibrate models against data and quantify uncertainty.
• Manage the technical approval of thermofluid systems through certification/qualification, including process compliance checks and documentation approval.
• Support the product in-service as required, including ongoing technical analysis and modifications.

Position Summary:

We’re looking for a Thermofluids Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship RR programs and play an important role in addressing some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in Defense.

The Thermofluids Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and analysis of gas turbine air, oil, fuel, and thermal management systems along with component and/or subsystem thermal analysis. The role supports the entire product lifecycle from concept generation and evaluation to in-service support.

What you will be doing:

• Define requirements for fluid systems and thermal analysis, ensuring accurate and complete flow-down and capture of higher-level requirements pertaining to each engineering problem. This includes system, sub-system and component level requirements.
• Integrate thermofluid systems through interaction with all adjacent areas across the organization so that thermofluid systems are optimized in ways that support optimum deployment of other, complimentary systems and components. These efforts will be effectively employed alongside project engineers, validation and verification engineers, design engineers, and program leadership.
• Perform detailed fluid flow, heat transfer, and thermo-mechanical analysis at whole-engine, sub-system and component level, using appropriate methods and tools and to a level of fidelity commensurate with each stage of the product lifecycle.
• perform appropriate verification and validation activity to ensure that requirements have been correctly written and that all Thermofluid related aspects of the powerplant meet expectations. This will include the specification of appropriate test and measurement activity, the calibration of models against measured data, and the quantification of uncertainty.
• Manage the technical approval of thermofluid Systems through certification and / or qualification, including process compliance checking, model auditing, and documentation approval and retention. This technical oversite will be managed within the structured audit and technical review gated processes.
• Support the product in-service as required. This may include but is not limited to ongoing technical analysis, root-cause-analysis and resolution, and in-service modifications.
