Job description

Beech Mountain Resort is seeking a motivated and experienced Lift Operations Director to oversee the daily operations of our lift department. The primary responsibilities of this role include recruiting, training, scheduling, and coordinating staff to maintain a department focused on safety and exceptional customer service. The Director will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all resort lifts while managing staff performance and ensuring full compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all day-to-day lift operations to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate lift operators, and ticket checkers
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive training programs, including pre-season orientation, on-the-job training, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI B77 standards, North Carolina Passenger Tramway regulations, and all resort policies
  • Monitor lift areas for hazards and resolve issues promptly
  • Oversee scheduling and staffing to meet operational needs while maintaining budget guidelines
  • Manage payroll processes and assist in resolving discrepancies
  • Communicate operational updates (e.g., delays, wind holds, closures) to Patrol, Guest Services, and leadership teams
  • Coordinate communication and response during lift downtime or emergencies
  • Assist Patrol with lift evacuations and incident response when needed
  • Investigate lift-related incidents and complete required reporting
  • Address and resolve guest concerns in a professional and timely manner
  • Ensure accurate completion and filing of daily operational logs
Operational Duties
  • Support morning setup, including snow removal, ramp preparation, and lift maze setup
  • Verify completion of all pre-operational safety checks
  • Ensure proper shutdown procedures are followed daily
  • Transport lift operators to assigned locations
  • Oversee maintenance and condition of load/unload ramps and lift stations
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all lift facilities
  • Collaborate closely with the lift maintenance team on repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Assist with maintenance projects and minor structural repairs
Seasonal Responsibilities
  • Perform and oversee lift maintenance during summer weekend operations
  • Schedule and manage weekend lift operations during the summer season
  • Prepare lift stations for annual inspections, ensuring all equipment, signage, and facilities are in proper condition
Qualifications
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and excellent communication skills
  • Experience in management, scheduling, and payroll submissions
  • Prior experience in lift operations or the resort industry preferred
  • Ability to ski or snowboard (mountain biking experience a plus)
  • Comfortable working in extreme and variable weather conditions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to operate ski lifts, ATVs, and snowmobiles
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and raking

All employees may be required to assist in other departments during peak periods, including weekends and holidays.
