DESCRIPTION
Professional Expert – Temporary, Short-Term Assignment: Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction for Kinesiology and Athletics, this position ensures the safety of swim class students by preventing and responding to emergencies.
REPRESEntATIVE DUTIES
- Scans the surveillance area to ensure students are safe and following rules.
- Responds to emergencies by providing rescue and first aid assistance up to their training level until medical personnel arrive.
- Inspects the aquatic area for hazards and cleanliness, reports hazards to the supervisor.
- Enforces rules consistently and fairly.
- Completes incident reports and maintains records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Graduation from high school and at least one year of experience as a lifeguard.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
:
- First aid
- AED/CPR
- Lifeguard Certification
KNOWLEDGE OF
: Terminology, methods, practices, and techniques related to lifeguarding; health, safety, and operational standards.
ABILITY TO
:
- Renew certifications when expired.
- Maintain swimming endurance and strength.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Interact politely with faculty, staff, and students.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Excellent swimmer.
- Ability to exert physical effort, including walking, climbing, standing, reaching, pulling, lifting 50 lbs., bending, and twisting.
- Effective visual and auditory perception for communication.
- Sitting or standing for extended periods.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor pool area; some shifts may be evening hours.
