Job summary

Kodiak is seeking a dedicated lifeguard to ensure patron safety at the aquatics facility. You will supervise swimming activities, enforce regulations, and respond to emergencies with First Aid, CPR, and AED as required. The role includes incident reporting, water quality checks, and occasional instructional support for swimming classes.

Evening/holiday shifts may be required. Must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguard certification and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard certification and be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard, including First Aid, CPR and AED functions.
• High school diploma or GED is required; high school student applicants are exempt.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to program patrons and the public.
• Supervise swimming activities and enforce pool policies and safety procedures.
• Warn swimmers of danger and enforce pool regulations.
• Perform safety checks and intervene to maintain a safe environment.
• Evaluate safety conditions and initiate emergency action when required.
• Inspect pool facilities, equipment and water quality for safety.
• Assist in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
• Assist with water tests (chlorine residual) and maintain test records.
• Complete incident and accident reports.
• Administer first aid and CPR/AED as needed.
• Work as part of a team and attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Instruct or assist swimming classes as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions, and intervenes when necessary.
• Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
• Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
• Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
• Assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
• Completes incident and accident reports.
• Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
• Acts as a team member maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors and staff.
• Attend department and facility staff meetings and in-service trainings, as necessary.
• Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have achieved a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED). *High school student applicants are exempt from this requirement*.

Supplemental Information

Must be available to work evenings, holidays and weekends as needed.
