Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at the Mel Korum Family YMCA in Puyallup, WA. This part-time role up to 25 hours per week pays $18.00 to $18.50 per hour, with compensation based on experience and qualifications.

The position emphasizes safety, swim instruction for youth, compliance with YMCA policies, and ongoing training. Candidates should be at least 16 and prepared for background checks and training on day one.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 years or older.
• Six months or more of related Aquatics experience preferred.
• Current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications preferred.
• Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks per WA State Fair Chance Act.
• Willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on day one and other required trainings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain pool safety by scanning water and deck, enforce rules, and follow emergency procedures.
• Instruct swimming lessons in basic and advanced strokes for youth.
• Perform rescues and administer first aid / CPR as needed and document reports.
• Prepare lesson plans with progression suited to class ages and abilities.
• Know and apply safety rules for pool and aquatic areas.
• Attend monthly, quarterly, and/or annual training and certifications.
• Build positive relationships with members, participants, and staff.
