Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking an Aquatics Staff member to join our team in Sumner, WA. The role combines lifeguard duties with swim instruction to ensure safe, welcoming, and inclusive aquatic programs for youth and members.

As part of the Gordon Family YMCA location, you’ll support safety, lesson planning, and quarterly trainings while engaging with diverse populations and contributing to the Y mission and community impact.

Qualifications

• Must possess Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications.
• At least 16 years old with six months or more aquatics experience; experience with youth and diverse populations preferred.
• Must pass background and reference checks per WA State Fair Chance Act.

Responsibilities

• Ensure member safety by scanning water and deck, enforcing rules, and following emergency procedures.
• Instruct swimming lessons for youth, with a progression of skills.
• Perform rescue actions and provide first aid/CPR per YMCA policies; complete required reports.
