SUMMARY
A Lifeguard Aquatic Supervisor has a legal duty to protect the safety of people in an assigned area. The Lifeguard Supervisor has a professional obligation to prevent potential accidents by enforcing the rules and regulations of an aquatic setting and to react to any emergencies that occur.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Must be able to fulfill all functions and duties of a lifeguard.
- Conduct weekly in-service training sessions as well as any others deemed necessary by the Aquatics Department.
- Supervise employees by:
- Conducting pre and post shift briefings with lifeguards;
- Assigning rotations to lifeguards;
- Responding to alerts from lifeguards;
- Conducting VAT and Visual on stand audits;
- Ensuring lifeguards follow park policies and procedures.
- Initiate and follow disciplinary actions up to but NOT including suspension and/or termination, including relaying information between management and lifeguards.
- Provide information to guests regarding facility layout and amenities.
- Conduct waterpark walkthroughs to assure guest satisfaction and reinforce all LG (lifeguard) standards every 15 minutes or if park attendance exceeds 150. On holiday dates and weekends, a Supervisor or Lead Guard will remain in WP from open to close and provide LG on stand with restroom breaks as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain an environment that is both safe and pleasant for pool patrons.
- Assist in maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Complete daily and hourly reports and counts, including but not limited to opening/closing, AED and O2 checks, hourly guest count, and daily cleaning.
- Wear approved uniform and any necessary job-related safety equipment during assigned shift or anytime while on duty.
- Subject to both pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening during tenure of employment.
- Perform other tasks and/or related duties as assigned or required by management and supervisors when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Ability to properly and safely operate equipment used.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Knowledge of the standards of care in the aquatic industry.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public, guests, and staff members.
- Must have emotional stability and the ability to make sound decisions that conform to facility policies when dealing with adverse situations.
- Knowledge that decisions may affect the total facility staff and the lives of others.
- Must be firm, fair, consistent, and courteous to gain the respect and cooperation of the public.
- Must have a positive attitude to fully cooperate with other guards in a team effort and adhere to rules and regulations to ensure successful operation of a facility.
- Must have the physical and mental conditions necessary to properly and timely activate and complete the EAP system in the case of an emergency.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Preference is given to guards that have previous lifeguarding experience and licenses.
- An Ellis lifeguarding license is necessary prior to performing the job function along with VanGuard certification; Ellis training is provided by the facility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach, stretch, and climb without any difficulty.
- Ability to effectively work at different heights.
- Able to swim 200 yards continuously using breaststroke and/or front crawl.
- Able to retrieve a ten-pound diving brick from the deepest part of the pool and bring it to the wall.
- Able to tread water without using hands or arms for a period of two minutes.
- Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods of time.
- Able to exit lifeguard stand in an emergency.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Able to work in a team environment as a team member and leader.
- Must work in environmental conditions that include, but are not limited to:
- Wet and humid environments.
- Indoor environmental conditions with up to 90% humidity and temperatures ranging from 70F to 105F.
- Exposure to chemicals, fumes, dirt, caustic chemicals, acids, odors, waste, and dust.
