Job description

Join to apply for the Lifeguard (Seasonal) role at Town of Surfside.

Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Aquatic Supervisor, responsible for preventing, recognizing, and responding to emergencies at the Town’s pool, beach, and related recreational activities. Provides care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrives and takes over.

Responsibilities include:

• Vigilantly monitor swimmers, weather, and water conditions.
• Perform rescues, artificial respiration, first aid, and respond to emergencies as needed.
• Warn against dangerous practices and keep weak swimmers and non-swimmers out of deep water.
• Enforce rules and regulations regarding swim areas tactfully and effectively.
• Maintain records concerning pool chemicals, accident reports, and incident reports.
• Maintain proper water chemistry and make necessary adjustments.
• Perform first aid, maintenance, and equipment checks.
• Maintain physical fitness to perform duties and meet physical requirements.
• Notify authorities if safety rules are violated.
• Work effectively with the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must possess the following certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the professional Rescuer or equivalent, and a valid Florida driver’s license. Additional certifications such as Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Lifeguard Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor are desirable.

This position is open until filled. Hourly rate: $15.90 - $20.25, DOQ/E.
