Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with the mission of the YMCA, the Lifeguard maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool and deck areas. Builds positive relationships with members and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills. Creatively finds ways to connect participants to one another and the YMCA community. Lifeguards enable the Y to offer life-changing programs in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, thereby strengthening our community.

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and respond immediately to emergency situations.
• Respond to emergencies within your zone and assist in communicating outside emergencies.
• Perform first aid and complete incident/accident reports as needed.
• Understand and communicate policies for pool safety and conduct.
• Perform routine maintenance to ensure a neat appearance of the waterpark.
• Provide excellent customer service to all guests.
• Participate in safety and quality drills.
• Attend all required trainings and arrive 10 minutes before shifts.
• Engage actively with members to build relationships and support their goals.
• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Preferred certifications include YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid.
• Complete practical guarding training before first shift.
• Pass water and audible tests for lifeguarding skills.
• Remain alert in warm environments and be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Maintain audible awareness of surroundings.
• Observe all pool areas clearly.
• Perform rescues, resuscitations, and survival skills as needed.
• Communicate effectively, projecting your voice in loud environments.
• Make quick decisions and act swiftly during emergencies.

Pay rate: USD $11.25 - USD $14.25 per hour.
