Job summary

Crossroads YMCA in Hammond, IN is hiring a Lifeguard to ensure safe swimming and a welcoming environment. You will supervise the pool area, enforce safety rules, and assist members with programs, earning a Y membership and program discounts as benefits.

The role requires current lifeguard certification, First Aid/BLS, strong communication, and the ability to pass YMCA safety standards. You must be at least 16 years old; 18+ with a high school diploma preferred.

Qualifications

• Current nationally recognized lifeguard certification; First Aid, BLS, and Oxygen administration preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Must demonstrate ability to pass basic lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.
• Minimum age 16; 18+ with high school diploma preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and deck.
• Enforce pool rules and safety policies; respond to emergencies.
• Record water temperature and chemical levels; report irregularities.
• Provide a safe, positive atmosphere for members and guests; assist as needed.
• Attend meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
