Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
2. Review all emergency procedures and respond immediately to emergency situations following YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Complete related reports as required.
3. Foster effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and staff.
4. Understand and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Keep accurate records as required by YMCA and state Health Department code.
5. Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of appropriate equipment.
6. Inspect the pool for hazards upon arrival.
7. Conduct chemical testing when not on duty and take necessary actions.
8. Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Minimum age of 15.
2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
3. Current YMCA lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification; obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
4. Oxygen Administration certification (required within 30 days of hire).
5. Ability to maintain physical and mental readiness at certification level.
6. Demonstrate lifeguard skills according to YMCA standards.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Hourly rate: USD $17.00 - USD $21.00
