The JCC Rainbow Day Camp is currently hiring energetic, passionate, and hard-working individuals as Lifeguards and Swim Instructors. In summer 2025, Lifeguards will work from Monday, June 9th to Friday, August 15th. Additional training will be provided prior to the camp season.

The Albert and Ann Deshur JCC Rainbow Day Camp is an inclusive summer camp, guided by Jewish values, for children and teens that fosters personal development, friendship, and community. Led by an experienced and nurturing staff on over 100 acres, campers safely participate in various enriching activities and programs.

Position Summary

A Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the aquatics area to prevent accidents, assist swimmers, and respond to emergencies. The incumbent will create a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety. The Lifeguard will oversee activities including free swim, boating, and the inflatable obstacle course.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool and pond areas.
• Know and review all emergency procedures and respond immediately to emergencies.
• Perform first aid when necessary and complete incident/accident reports.
• Understand and communicate policies and guidelines for waterfronts.
• Enforce stoplight system for camper safety in the water.
• Participate in camp activities.
• Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
• Keep the site clean, organized, and litter-free.
• Communicate with camp director about participant experiences.
• Follow all emergency procedures and safety guidelines for all program areas.
• Participate in camp spirit days, programs, and songs.
• Contribute to the team with enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Current lifeguard certification and First Aid, CPR/AED or completion of in-house certification.
• Ability to plan, organize, and implement activities.
• Work well in a team with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Willingness to promote fun and community.
• Ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance and hazardous situations.
• Effective communication with diverse groups and ages.
• Dedication to camper safety and the camp’s mission.

Physical Demands

• Must pass the lifeguard water test.
• Remain alert in warm environments.
• Stand or sit for extended periods.
• Hear distress signals and observe all areas clearly.
• Perform rescues, including swimming support and removing adults from water.
• Perform strenuous physical tasks related to water rescues.
• Verbal communication, including projecting voice.

Work Environment

Work includes indoor and outdoor settings, interacting with children and adults daily.
