Position Summary

This position is responsible for lifeguard activities at the Community Recreation Center swimming pool, in accordance with the guidelines established and approved by the Fitness Director and/or Community Center Director.

This is a grade N5 position; pay starts at $14.90/hour.

Education and Experience

• Must have or be able to obtain a nationally recognized certification in Lifeguarding procedures within 1 month of hire.
• Must learn how to test water chemistry and make necessary adjustments to comply with established standards.
• Must pass a prerequisite swimming skills test prior to an interview, including a 300-yard swim (front crawl or breaststroke), a 2-minute water tread using legs only, and the ability to retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft deep, surface, and swim 20 yards with the weight, then exit the pool without a ladder within 100 seconds.
• Must pass a thorough background check, including Criminal History, fingerprint check, and pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong swimming abilities.
• Experience in an aquatic environment.
