Job summary

YMCA of Southwest Florida Lifeguard role focuses on ensuring the safety of all participants around the pool under the guidance of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director. Strong swimmers are encouraged to apply; certification can be arranged before start and swim testing is required prior to interview.

Key duties include constant surveillance, enforcing safety rules, maintaining records and cleanliness, and coordinating with staff to ensure a safe aquatic environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Florida background check requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Lifeguard skills per YMCA/Red Cross standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area.
• Follow emergency procedures and complete required reports.
• Ensure participants wear appropriate swim attire and flotation devices as needed.
• Keep the pool and surrounding area clean and equipment in good condition.
• Perform chemical testing and address any hazards; report to Aquatics Director.
• Find replacements when unable to work and complete paperwork.
• Attend staff meetings and training as required.
