Job summary

YMCA of Southwest Florida is seeking a lifeguard to help ensure the safety of all participants around the pool under the Aquatics team. You will monitor the area, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies following YMCA procedures.

Role requires signaling and reporting incidents, maintaining equipment, and complying with health and safety standards. Florida background checks and ongoing certifications are required.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Clear Florida criminal history background check and state screening.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA/Red Cross standards.
• Professional appearance and attitude.
• Background screening through Florida Care Provider system.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area.
• Respond to emergencies per YMCA procedures and complete required reports.
• Ensure participants wear appropriate swim attire and flotation devices as needed.
• Keep the pool area clean and report maintenance concerns.
• Perform chemical testing and record results as required.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Assist with shift changes and related paperwork.
