PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring Salary: $17.50/hour

This posting is collecting lifeguard applications for the Pheasant Run Outdoor Pool, Meadow Hills Outdoor Pool, and Central Recreation Center. Training & certification are provided!

To be considered for hire, 12 hours of availability per week is required.

This position is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications throughout the year; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lifeguards perform routine tasks to maintain the safety and cleanliness of swimming pools:

  • Providing patron information
  • Enforcing pool rules
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Performing daily pool maintenance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Equivalent training and experience that will demonstrate required knowledge, abilities and skills.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of pool safety and emergency action plans.

Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain a safe environment at work site.

Skills:

  • Skill in the life saving techniques and emergency response.

Licenses, Certificates and/or Equipment Required:

  • Lifeguard training
  • Standard first aid and CPR-PR certification or equivalent program certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification (Preferred)

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds; regular walking and standing; regular climbing, bending, kneeling and crouching; hand/foot/eye coordination to perform appropriate rescue skills; vision to read instructions; hearing and speech communication for communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment:

  • Works both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, water and other conditions found in an aquatic environment.

Equipment Used:

  • Operates equipment related to aquatic facility operations.

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
