Job description

Department Summary:
UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs, employing approximately 90 full-time employees and over 1,000 part-time staff. The department offers a wide range of recreational activities and wellbeing services, managing 15 of the university's recreational and athletic facilities for various recreational, competitive, and event purposes.

Position Summary:
This role involves ensuring the safety of patrons in an aquatic facility. Responsibilities include monitoring swimming areas to prevent accidents, providing first aid and CPR as needed, instructing individuals and groups in swimming and water safety, and maintaining pool sanitation and safety procedures. The incumbent may also recommend safety procedures, enforce rules, and assist with pool maintenance. The position requires work during weekends, evenings, holidays, and possibly traveling between multiple pool sites. The appointment is temporary, renewable annually.

Salary & Compensation:

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old (Required)
  • Experience with administering emergency oxygen (Required)
  • Availability to work 8-20 hours/week during academic quarters (Required)
  • ARC Blood Borne Pathogens, Lifeguard Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor certifications (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Affiliations:
  • High School Diploma (Preferred)
  • Current ARC Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications (Required upon hire)
  • Title 22 certification within 6 months of hire (Required)
  • Additional ARC certifications (Preferred)

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Background check required for continued employment
  • Live Scan background check before starting
  • Must be 18 or older to be eligible for hire
