GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Lifeguard should be able to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence through swimming and aquatics, be able to motivate and effectively communicate with members, parents and students, and exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Individuals considered for this job must take and pass an advanced swimming and rescue skills test. YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross lifeguard certification is required. Candidates must be at least 15 years old and possess the ability to exercise mature judgment, relate positively yet firmly to people, be observant, safety-conscious, react calmly and quickly in emergencies, communicate effectively about YMCA programs, lift at least 50 lbs, and have full body mobility. Certifications in Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED must be obtained and maintained.
