Job description

Responsible for supervising, controlling, and ensuring the safety of all participants during pool activities through preventative guarding methods. Must remain alert at all times, with no lapses in consciousness. Sit for extended periods in an elevated chair or stand at the edge of the deck while on duty. Move between various locations, including in and around the elevated chair. Communicate verbally, projecting your voice across distances, and coordinate effectively with emergency personnel both over the phone and in person. Demonstrate the ability to think abstractly, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and remember details. Operate independently or as part of a team with other lifeguards and staff. Provide supervision and uphold high safety standards during all swimming activities. Administer swim tests, manage swim-safe bands, and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the pool, deck, and locker rooms. Test water quality parameters such as pH, free chlorine level, and water temperature. Engage positively with students and staff. Be familiar with all emergency procedures. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times. Arrive on time, be prepared to guard, and perform assigned tasks promptly. Be capable of lifting up to 100 lbs and working around chemicals as required. Perform additional tasks delegated by the Director or Coordinator for the benefit of the aquatic program. Qualifications include holding a current Red Cross and/or Lifeguard certification or equivalent, certification in CPR for the Pro Rescuer and First Aid, and being at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must complete all required training and certifications, and be able to make sound decisions in stressful aquatic environments. Must have the ability to hear distress signals amid background noise and swim 300 continuous yards using freestyle and breaststroke. Verification of education and certifications must be provided upon interview.
