Salary Range: $15.00 - $16.00 Hourly
Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and following Association policies, the Lifeguard should motivate others in self-awareness and confidence through swimming and aquatics. They should effectively communicate with members, parents, and students, exercising mature judgment and sound decision-making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas.
  2. Prevent accidents by scanning assigned zones thoroughly, following the 10/10 rule.
  3. Perform swim tests as required by policy.
  4. Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
  5. Respond to emergencies according to YMCA policies and procedures.
  6. Create a welcoming, nurturing, and genuine environment for members and guests.
  7. Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
  8. Work collaboratively with other staff members.
  9. Complete incident and accident reports as needed.
  10. Perform routine maintenance to ensure cleanliness of the pool, locker rooms, and surrounding areas.
  11. Check and report issues with pool and rescue equipment promptly.
  12. Set up and put away equipment for recreational activities.
  13. Participate in and complete mandatory in-service trainings.
  14. Uphold the YMCA's core values when interacting with people within the facilities and community.
  15. Work scheduled shifts; prior approval from the Aquatics Director is required for substitutions.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Applicants must pass an advanced swimming and rescue skills test. Certification as a YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard is required. Candidates must be at least 15 years old and possess the ability to exercise mature judgment, relate positively and firmly with people, be observant, safety-conscious, react calmly in emergencies, communicate YMCA programs effectively, lift at least 50 lbs, and have a full range of body movement. Certifications in Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED must be current.
