About the Role

Asphalt Green is seeking responsible, alert, and dedicated Lifeguards to join our Aquatics team.

This role is responsible for helping ensure the safety of all pool patrons by actively monitoring the pool, enforcing facility rules, responding quickly to emergencies, and supporting a safe, welcoming, and professional aquatics environment.

The ideal candidate is a strong swimmer with excellent observation, communication, and decision-making skills. Lifeguards must be able to remain calm under pressure, respond appropriately during emergencies, and work collaboratively with other lifeguards, aquatics staff, and facility team members.

This role may require the ability and willingness to work at either or both Asphalt Green locations: Upper East Side and Battery Park City.

  • Monitor swimmers, pool activity, and facility conditions throughout assigned shifts.
  • Identify unsafe behavior, risks, or concerns and respond quickly.
  • Enforce facility rules to help prevent accidents and maintain a safe environment.
  • Give clear and respectful instructions to patrons when rules or safety expectations need to be reinforced.
  • Stay alert, focused, and prepared while on duty.
Emergency Response and First Aid
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid situations.
  • Administer CPR, AED, and other life-saving techniques as needed.
  • Remain calm and focused during emergency situations.
  • Communicate clearly during emergencies with patrons, staff, and management.
  • Follow Asphalt Green’s emergency procedures and aquatics safety protocols.
  • Report incidents, safety concerns, and equipment issues according to department procedures.

  • Communicate professionally with swimmers, members, guests, program participants, families, staff, and management.
  • Help create a welcoming and safe environment for all pool users.
  • Enforce rules respectfully and consistently.
  • Support a positive experience for patrons while maintaining safety as the top priority.
Teamwork and Facility Support
  • Work collaboratively with fellow lifeguards, aquatics staff, facility staff, and management.
  • Perform routine inspections of lifeguard equipment and report any issues.
  • Support pool readiness and safety checks as assigned.
  • Attend required staff meetings, in-service trainings, and safety training sessions.
  • Follow department standards, procedures, and expectations.
  • Support a clean, organized, and professional aquatics environment.
