Job Details Job Location: Briggs Community YMCA - Olympia, WA Position Type: Part-Time Salary Range: $18.00 - $18.00 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lifeguard Opener/Closer is responsible for opening and closing the pool/spa, ensuring the environment is safe and complies with WAC requirements. They protect patron safety by enforcing rules, maintaining cleanliness, and balancing pool chemistry. The role promotes the YMCA and Aquatic Department's mission and goals. Shifts are from 4:15 am to 8:00 am, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Program: Supervise swimmers, model responsible behavior, enforce rules, respond to incidents, ensure proper equipment use, learn members’ names, provide friendly service, wear appropriate uniform, facilitate programs, follow SOPs.
  2. Supervision/Staff: Ensure safety, enforce policies, perform opening/closing procedures, handle inquiries.
  3. Facility: Keep areas clean, report hazards, perform chemical tests, address WAC requirements, communicate with maintenance.
  4. Administration: Maintain records, perform checklists, report supplies, utilize time system.
  5. Association: Attend trainings, keep certifications current, adhere to policies, attend meetings, participate in projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years old with relevant education and experience.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED, YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification, knowledge of laws and codes.
  • Preferred: 1+ year lifeguarding, pool water quality, pump room knowledge, CPO certification.
  • Ability to think critically, energetic, punctual, capable of chemical adjustments.

Upon hire: Complete South Sound YMCA’s New Employee Orientation within 45 days.
