PROGRAM AREA: Aquatics
JOB TITLE: Lifeguard
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time seasonal
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $16.00 - $17.00
HOURS PER WEEK: 5-20
JOB SUMMARY:
Lifeguards are responsible for providing a safe and fun environment for all patrons by remaining vigilant and enforcing all pool rules fairly and consistently. May also be asked to assist Instructors during lessons so long as they remain within the pool area and do not deter you from maintaining surveillance of patrons in the facility.
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Provide any and all rescue and emergency care as needed.
- Be alert and ready to act at any time.
- Recognize potential hazards and respond appropriately.
- Maintain a professional appearance by always being in uniform and keeping the facility clean and organized.
- Enforce all pool rules and be firm, fair and tactful.
- Be punctual and always let building staff know if you anticipate being tardy.
- Share patron concerns and needs with supervisor or building staff when necessary.
- Reliable and Responsible, present for assigned shifts and proactive in finding a replacement when needed.
- Be an authority figure at your facility and work to create a safe and fun environment for others.
- Check equipment to make sure it is in working order and inform supervisor when necessary.
- Maintain your skills by attending mandatory in-service trainings.
- Maintain current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Able to meet the scheduling needs for this position (nights and weekends during school year)
- Access to reliable transportation
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- No prior experience required.
- Swim team experience a plus.
- Volunteer experience working with children optimal.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Be a capable and strong swimmer.
- Ability to communicate well with patrons and co-workers.
- Must be able to remain alert for 4-8 hour shifts.
- Able to sit or stand for long periods of time in a pool environment.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during emergency situation.
- Maintain professionalism while on duty.
