Job summary

Howard County Government seeks a Lifeguard Instructor to teach American Red Cross Lifeguard courses at Roger Carter Community Center. The role involves leading classes, developing lesson plans, and maintaining safety standards in a public aquatics facility.

Prerequisites include Red Cross lifeguarding/instructor certifications and strong communication skills. Prior teaching of Lifeguard courses is preferred; high school diploma required with some college preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be certified in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard Instructor.
• Experience teaching American Red Cross Lifeguard courses preferred.
• Ability to supervise and lead groups of 6–10 students.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead American Red Cross Lifeguard and Lifeguard Recertification courses.
• Develop lesson plans and manage timelines for material.
• Lead six to ten students per class.
• Monitor activities and prevent accidents in the aquatics facility.
• Maintain records for attendance and safety reports.
• Promote aquatic programs and center memberships.
