Job summary

Charlottesville City Lifeguard II position at Smith Aquatic & Fitness Center (and occasionally Crow Recreation Center) oversees pool operations, staff supervision and customer service, and can act as manager on duty when required. This full-time, non-exempt role offers benefits including health insurance, retirement options, vacation and sick leave, holidays and tuition assistance.

Pay is $19.00–$19.50 per hour, with starting points based on education, experience, and equity.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitors and observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules and pool rules.
• Provides emergency lifesaving services to swimmers in need.
• Takes part in training programs to improve lifesaving skills.
• Reports all guest and employee situations to supervisor immediately.
• Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular schedule.
• Informs management of needed supplies or equipment-related issues.
• Follows all service standards and departmental policies and procedures.
• May give swimming instructions to individuals or groups.
• Responsible for the oversight of cash handling in the absence of management.
• Assists with the management and maintenance of the facility, acting as manager on duty as required.
