Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is hiring Lifeguards to ensure swimmer safety, prevent incidents, and provide a welcoming environment for members and visitors. Free training and lifeguard certification are provided if you’re not already certified. No experience is required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Lifeguard or Shallow Water certification. Training and certification provided if needed.
• Able to pass a physical competency for Lifeguard certification (swim, treading water, timed events).
• Must maintain safety rules and communicate effectively with members and staff.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and respond promptly to emergencies.
• Review and follow YMCA emergency procedures; complete required reports.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure proper safety standards are met.
• Maintain courteous relationships with members, participants, and staff; assist with deck and locker room cleanliness.
• Open/close procedures and report for shifts with proper notification.
