Job summary

Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY is hiring Lifeguards for our aquatics department. Part-time and seasonal roles are available in our new, state-of-the-art facility, with a focus on surveillance and safety of patrons in the water.

Responsibilities include emergency response, customer service, and support for front desk operations. We seek experienced, dedicated lifeguards who can uphold our safety standards and engage well with kids and guests.

Qualifications

• Active ARC lifeguard certification (training provided)
• Monthly in-service training required
• Lifeguard training and on-the-spot evaluations will occur
• Must pass a standard swim test (200 yards, 2 minutes tread, 10 lb weight)
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs
• Must enjoy working with kids

Responsibilities

• Execute proper surveillance and rescue techniques when needed
• Provide emergency care and treatment until EMS arrival
• Maintain professional appearance and high customer service standards
• Assist Front Desk with check-ins, phone calls, and directing questions
• Perform maintenance duties to keep the facility clean and safe
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
• Enter the water to assist with pool maintenance or orientation adjustments
• Maintain pool decks with cleaning tasks

About the Opportunity

Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn features an Olympic-level gymnastics training space, state-of-the-art indoor boarded soccer fields, a warm-water, learn-to-swim pool, and multiple party/event spaces. We are hiring Lifeguards to join our Aquatics department in our 4' deep warm-water pool. We offer a variety of programming throughout the year. We are looking for experienced, dedicated, and passionate Lifeguards to work in our brand-new state-of-the-art facility. There are part-time and seasonal positions available. Our Lifeguards will be expected to maintain consistent surveillance of patrons in the facility and act with immediate and appropriate protocol to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.

Responsibilities

• Execute proper surveillance and rescue techniques when needed
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required or until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
• Assist with the Front Desk station as needed including but not limited to checking in customers, answering phone calls and directing questions to the appropriate staff
• Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
• Entering the water to assist with pool maintenance or pool orientation adjustment
• Maintaining the pool decks cleanliness via various cleaning techniques
• Assisting patrons as needed

Qualifications

• Ability and willingness to achieve and maintain an active American Red Cross (ARC) certification (training provided)
• Participate in a required minimum amount of in-service training each month as set by Aquatics Management
• Participating in lifeguard training and on-the-spot evaluations and if necessary remediation based on Director's discretion
• Must be willing and able to complete a standard swim evaluation including a continuous 200 yard swim, two minutes of treading without the use of hands, and a retrieval of a 10lb weight at the bottom of the pool without the use of goggles
• Must be prepared to lift objects as heavy as 55lbs
• Must enjoy working with kids
