Responsibilities include:

1. Maintaining active surveillance of the pool area.
2. Reviewing all emergency procedures and responding immediately to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and the "safe-in-six" model; completing related reports.
3. Responding promptly to challenges with possible solutions.
4. Applying safety rules, policies, and guidelines consistently for the pool and aquatic area.
5. Remaining calm and objective under pressure or when challenged.
6. Maintaining accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the health department.
7. Performing equipment checks and ensuring availability of appropriate equipment.
8. Checking the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival.
9. Performing chemical testing when not guarding and taking appropriate actions.

Minimum requirements include:

1. Being a certified lifeguard.
2. Being at least 15 years old.
