Lifeguard / Deck Monitor Job Description

Reports to: Manager

Description:

The lifeguard / deck monitor ensures the safety of patrons and students in and around the pool and responds to emergencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area; act swiftly in emergencies to ensure safety.
• Provide emergency care and treatment until medical help arrives.
• Prepare and maintain incident reports.
• Present a professional appearance and attitude, maintaining high customer service standards.
• Perform duties to keep the facility clean and safe.
• Supervise the pool area according to American Red Cross standards.
• Assist instructors as needed to ensure safe lessons.
• Help parents and students with check-in and pool area guidance.

Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Maintain current Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED certifications for adult, infant, and swimmer.
• Previous swim instruction and/or lifeguarding experience required.
• Complete all lifeguarding prerequisites per American Red Cross standards.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.

Uniforms: Lifeguards must wear SafeSplash uniforms, provided annually. Additional uniforms can be purchased at cost. Uniforms must be maintained clean and professional. Failure to wear the uniform during hours may result in being sent home without pay.

Hours: 3-30 hours per week

Compensation: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour, based on experience and skills
