In this position, you will be responsible for patrolling, observing, directing, and monitoring activities at the Little Buffalo State Park Pool Complex, either from designated stations on the shore or within the water itself. Your primary objective will be to maintain order and reduce the risk of accidents or drowning among swimmers and other visitors to the park. You will need to be vigilant in recognizing swimmers who may be in distress or require assistance, employing established lifesaving techniques to rescue them when necessary. It is crucial to remain alert at your assigned post, continuously scanning the swimming area to prevent accidents and to be ready to respond swiftly in case of an emergency. Any rescues, accidents, or incidents must be reported to your supervisor immediately, and you will be responsible for summoning additional help as needed. Completing incident reports promptly, thoroughly, and legibly after each event is an essential administrative duty. You will also administer first aid, artificial respiration, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to injured visitors, ensuring you are proficient in techniques for adults, infants, and children. Compliance with the Bureau of State Parks' swimming rules and regulations is mandatory, and you will assist park patrons by explaining these guidelines. Regular inspections of safety equipment, including buoys, floats, ropes, and first aid supplies, will be part of your responsibilities to ensure everything is in proper working order. Additionally, you will assess swimming areas for unsafe conditions to guarantee they are safe for public use. You will prepare and submit written reports detailing swimming conditions, activities, and incidents, ensuring that all necessary forms, such as daily logs, first aid logs, pool inspection sheets, and water quality forms, are completed accurately and submitted to the lifeguard supervisor or park manager. A thorough understanding of the DCNR Lifeguard Manual is essential, and you will participate in orientation and training sessions to review and enhance your knowledge of the Bureau of State Parks' protocols.
