About The Camp
Bear Creek Aquatic Camp is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. Located south of Benton, Kentucky, this 183-acre camp has 2.3 miles of shoreline on beautiful Kentucky Lake. Bear Creek offers campers a variety of aquatic sports including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, and swimming. Our program hosts Girl Scouts entering grades 4 through 12 with up to 70 campers per session. Programs are run by paid camp staff and Girl Scout volunteers.

About The Role
Right now, the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is seeking a responsible and attentive lifeguard to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer experience for campers in Benton, KY. Lifeguards will be responsible for supervising pool activities to prevent accidents, teaching water safety by communicating rules and policies, aiding in emergency situations, and maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the waterfront area. The ideal candidate will be invested in developing skills, personal growth, and empowering campers.
Candidates must currently be Lifeguard Certified

Compensation
$15 per hour
Schedule:Seeking an hourly lifeguard for these dates:June 18, 19, 20, 21, 22June 26, 27, 28, 29July 5, 6July 9, 10, 11, 12July 16, 17, 18, 19, 20
Hours:8:50 am - 12:00 pm and 2:15 pm - 4:45 pm(Lunch break and rest between 12:00 - 2:15)
Key Responsibilities
- Lifeguard all pool activities
- Responsible for safety of all swimmers during shift and for the interpretation and enforcement of all
waterfront rules.
- Communicate to provide clear, necessary instruction to participants of all age and skill levels.
- Evaluate aquatic abilities for every person in camp by administering a swim proficiency test.
- Instruct and enforce waterfront safety measures for every person in camp in accordance with GSUSA
Safety Activity Checkpoints.
- Observe swimmers' behavior, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply
appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Maintain a high degree of personal physical fitness and readiness to react in the event of an
emergency.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
- Most camp activities happen outdoors.
- The waterfront area located near Kentucky Lake.
- Daily exposure to various weather conditions (including sun and heat), plants, and animals.
- Daily swimming, and lifeguarding in open lake water.
- This position requires the ability to remain calm and responsive in emergency situations.
- Lifeguards must be prepared to act quickly and effectively in the event of a poolside emergency, including rescues, administering first aid, or coordinating with emergency services if needed. The role demands constant vigilance and readiness to respond to potentially high-pressure situations.
Minimum Job Requirements
EDUCATION
- 1 year of higher education or relevant work experience completed.
- Must be certified in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Lifeguarding
- Other certifications and outdoor or boating skills/knowledge are a plus.
Experience
- Previous experience working with children, youth, or campers is a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Girl Scout program, principles and standards is a plus.
Specific Skills And Requirements
- Possess physical strength and mental endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Possess endurance including prolonged standing.
- Lift and/or assist campers or staff for emergency purposes.
- Strong comfort level and swimming skills in pool water.
- Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent oral/written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
- Proven decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Provide prompt and courteous customer service to all individuals.
- Identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.

- Respond appropriately to situations requiring First Aid, and assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
- Collaborate effectively with a diverse team, demonstrating respect for different perspectives and working harmoniously to achieve common goals.

Organization Requirements
- Be 18+ years of age
- Must be American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR & AED prior to the start of camp.
- Possess Valid ID
- Access to reliable transportation
- Subscription to the principals of the Girl Scout Movement and registration as a member of Girl Scouts.
- Effectively manage financial and physical resources.
- Exhibit effective communication skills and provide exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Report incidents of abuse or potential abuse involving campers to the appropriate authorities.
