Job summary

Countryside YMCA is seeking an experienced Lifeguard & Certification Instructor to join our Aquatics team. This full-time role combines active lifeguarding with teaching lifeguard certification and recertification courses for YMCA employees and community participants.

You will oversee lifeguard duties, orientations, and ongoing staff training while maintaining a safe, welcoming pool environment. Strong communication and instructional skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years as head lifeguard, aquatic supervisor, or aquatic coordinator.
• Current YMCA USA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification.
• Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
• Strong communication and instructional skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular lifeguarding duties, monitor swimming areas, enforce pool rules, and respond to emergencies.
• Prepare and teach monthly lifeguard certification and recertification classes.
• Assist with teaching Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED certification courses for YMCA employees and community participants.
• Conduct lifeguard orientations and support ongoing staff training.
• Assist with lifeguard scheduling, supervision, and coverage as needed.
• Work with aquatics leadership to coordinate and document required lifeguard in-service training.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming pool environment.
• Build positive relationships with members, participants, and fellow staff.
