Job summary

Countryside YMCA in Lebanon, OH is seeking an experienced Lifeguard & Certification Instructor to join our Aquatics team. This full-time role blends active lifeguarding with teaching lifeguard certification and recertification courses on the pool deck.

You will prepare new lifeguards, support staff training, and teach Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED courses for YMCA employees and community participants. A passion for safety and instruction is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Minimum of two years of experience as a head lifeguard, aquatic supervisor, or aquatic coordinator.
• Current YMCA of the USA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
• Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification.
• Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
• Strong communication and instructional skills.
• Dependability, professionalism, and a commitment to providing excellent member service.
• Ability to perform required lifeguarding, swimming, and rescue responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular lifeguarding duties, including actively monitoring swimming areas, enforcing pool rules, and responding to emergencies.
• Prepare and teach monthly lifeguard certification and recertification classes.
• Assist with teaching Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED certification courses for YMCA employees and community participants.
• Conduct lifeguard orientations and support ongoing staff training.
• Assist with lifeguard scheduling, supervision, and coverage as needed.
• Work with aquatics leadership to coordinate and document required lifeguard in-service training.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming pool environment.
• Build positive relationships with members, participants, and fellow staff.
