Lifeguard/Aquatic Instructor - Lansdowne YMCA

Join our team as a Lifeguard/Aquatic Instructor - Lansdowne YMCA at Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

Position Overview

We are hiring Lifeguards and Aquatic Instructors. The shift hours and days will vary. The role involves maintaining safe swimming conditions, providing leadership and instruction in swimming classes, and ensuring a positive, safe environment for members and participants in accordance with YMCA policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and perform lifeguard duties.
  • Instruct swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines and prepared lesson plans.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, knowing all emergency procedures.
  • Enforce pool rules and foster positive relationships with members and staff.
  • Promote aquatics programs and schedules, referring participants as needed.
  • Keep records of attendance, progress, and report damages or hazards.
  • Ensure safety and proper functioning of all equipment and water quality.
  • Complete incident reports and attend staff meetings and trainings.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 15 years.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain physical and mental readiness.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to hear distress signals and remain alert at all times.
  • Meet physical strength and lifting requirements.
  • Maintain visual observation of the entire pool zone.
Additional Details

Position is part-time, entry-level, in the Wellness and Fitness Services industry, with pay ranging from $12.00 to $16.00 per hour. The role involves ensuring safety, providing instruction, and promoting a positive aquatic environment.
