Job summary

Job description

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring that the safety of all patrons by actively supervising the aquatic environment, enforcing facility rules, and responding to emergencies as needed. This position maintains a constant state of readiness to prevent accidents, provide first aid, and perform water and land rescues when necessary.

The Lifeguard's duties are to assist with daily pool operations, including cleaning, inspections, and customer service. The primary focus of the Lifeguard position is accident prevention and emergency response. Lifeguards are trained to recognize hazardous situations, act quickly and appropriately, and ensure a safe aquatic experience for all participants. Lifeguards are expected to participate in live drills, and during the school year attend 1 in-service training per month and during the summer attend 2 in-service training per month.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

• Monitors participants' use of facilities and program areas and enforces recreation and safety rules and regulations, always adhering to safety protocols.
• Assists in promoting interest and providing information to the public regarding activities and programs for assigned area(s).
• Provides input regarding continued development of program to supervisor, works with other departments and agencies as assigned from supervisor.
• Communicates official plans and procedures to the public when leading programming. Maintains harmony among participants and resolves issues or communicates them to immediate supervisor or Department leadership if needed. Assists to resolve any issues and/or complaints, working collaboratively with leadership as may be necessary.
• Must be at least 15 years of age. Must be certified as a lifeguard with CPR/AED and First AID for the professional. Must have strong swimming skills and ability to perform rescues in various water depths. Ability to remain attentive and alert during long periods of surveillance. Previous lifeguard experience preferred.
