JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:
IMMEDIATE OPENINGS! Campus Recreation is currently looking for Lifeguards to help us get our facilities and programs up and running when we are able to return to campus.
Campus Recreation provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs through various facilities including the Intramural Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, and more.
Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of members and guests through patron surveillance and preventive lifeguarding, maintaining knowledge of American Red Cross and Penn State policies, assisting in maintaining a clean and safe aquatics center, managing disagreements respectfully, arriving on time, remaining calm in emergencies, and maintaining communication with supervisors. They should attend all trainings, be receptive to feedback, and work as part of the team.
Qualifications include obtaining and maintaining American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, Penn State Bloodborne Pathogens training, and passing background checks (criminal and FBI). These clearances are mandatory: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Criminal Background Check.
Work hours are a maximum of 24 hours/week during the academic year (20 hours for international students) and up to 40 hours/week during breaks. Shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays, primarily at the White Building or McCoy Natatorium. All employees are expected to attend Fall Kick-Off Trainings.
