Summary

This position is responsible for general lifeguarding duties at events and activities at the Veteran's Memorial Aquatics Center (VMAC). This is a non-benefited position scheduled as needed based on facility programming for less than 20 hours a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Observe swimmers and spectator areas to ensure safety, correct unsafe behavior, respond to emergencies, perform lifesaving procedures, and enforce VMAC rules and regulations.
2. Perform daily facility checks on equipment to meet manufacturer and state health code regulations; complete facility reports daily. Clean pool and pump room; assist with snow clearance of walkways as needed.
3. Set up and take down events and practices (e.g., moving bulkheads, lane lines, timing system, computers, tables, chairs, platforms).
4. Attend mandatory monthly staff training and/or meetings.
5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Prerequisites

1. Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without resting. Submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards; tread water for 2 minutes; swim 50 yards.
2. Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Swim 20 yards, surface dive to 7 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back with the brick, then exit the water.
3. Prerequisite 3: Complete a brick retrieval event in deep water: dive to 13 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to the surface, swim to the wall, and exit.

Education and Related Work Experience

• Either currently in High School or High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a minimum of 15 years old.
• No experience required.

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

• Criminal background check required for hire.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certification required.
• American Red CPR-PR/AED Certification required.
