Job summary

The City of Saint Clair Shores is seeking lifeguards for the SCS Municipal Pool to ensure swimmer safety and enforce rules. You will monitor the water, perform rescues when necessary, and help maintain a clean, safe pool environment. Training will be provided for ARC prerequisites.

Positions typically schedule 32 or more hours per week and may include variable shifts through the summer season. The department offers on-site training and opportunities to contribute to public safety and community

Qualifications

• Must meet American Red Cross Lifeguard prerequisites.
• Be at least 5 years old by last day of class.
• Swim 300 yards using front crawl or breaststroke.
• Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.
• Retrieve a 10 lb dive weight from 7 feet, surface and swim 20 yards with it, exit without a ladder in 100 seconds.

Job description

Lifeguards ensure swimmer safety at the SCS Municipal Pool. In this role, lifeguards enforce safety rules, monitor the water for danger, and rescue swimmers. Lifeguards are also responsible for multiple aspects of facility cleanliness - including but not limited to organizing deck furniture and clearing the pool of any debris.

Lifeguards typically are scheduled for 32 or more hours per week.

Training will be provided to those that an pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard prerequisites, which include:

• Students must be at least 5 years old by the last day of class
• Complete a 300 yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke
• Complete a 2 minute tread using legs only
• Possess the ability to retrieve a 10 lb dive weight from 7 feet deep, surface and swim 20 yards with the weight, using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds
