POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA is seeking lifeguards for our new downtown Sacramento location. The role involves maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, and creating a safe, positive environment that promotes member safety and engagement in line with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
- Review and respond to all emergency procedures promptly, following YMCA policies and the 'safe-in-six' model. Complete related reports as required.
- Build effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and staff.
- Understand and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas. Keep accurate records as required by the YMCA and state health regulations.
- Perform equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
- Inspect the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival.
- Conduct chemical testing when not on guard duty and take appropriate actions.
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
- Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification; YMCA Lifeguarding Certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
- Oxygen Administration certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to maintain physical and mental readiness at certification level.
- Demonstrate lifeguard skills according to YMCA standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass the lifeguard water test.
- Remain alert at all times.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Hear noises and recognize distress signals.
- Continuously scan all pool areas with clear vision.
- Perform strenuous physical tasks for water rescues.
- Communicate verbally, projecting voice across distances and in loud situations.
SALARY:
$16.00 - $22.34 per hour
