Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA in Port Washington, WI is seeking a motivated Lifeguard to help ensure the safety of everyone using our aquatics facilities. Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, you will enforce pool rules and perform lifeguard duties in a professional, responsible manner.

The role requires maintaining certifications, responding to emergencies according to YMCA procedures, and attending required trainings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 15 years.
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certifications must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the primary responsibility of the lifeguard is to ensure the safety of all those who use the aquatics facilities. We are looking for a motivated individual to ensure the safety of all those who use the aquatics facilities. Consistently and fairly enforce all the pool rules and regulations and perform lifeguard duties in a professional, responsible and courteous manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains all required certifications.
  • Analyzes difficult situations and makes decisions according to established policies.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies health and safety rules, policies, guidelines for the pool and pool area.
  • Remains alert and vigilant to proactively prevent emergency situations.
  • Responds to emergency situations immediately and in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.
  • Maintains accurate records required by YMCA and state agencies.
  • Reports to work a minimum of 5 minutes early and is ready to guard by the start of their shift.
  • Has proper equipment at every shift, including guard tube and equipped lifeguard pack; performs equipment checks before every shift to ensure lifeguard readiness.
  • Attends required trainings to ensure that skills are maintained.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies within the Child Abuse Prevention handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 15 years of age.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid Certifications preferred; required within 30 days of hire.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Required, certification provided by KMYMCA.
  • Strong communication skills.

CERTIFICATIONS:

1. Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year

2. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification every two years

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move quickly in emergency situations, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
  • Required to remain alert and vigilant while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to tolerate a fast paced, loud, and humid environment.
