The City of Cleveland is seeking Lifeguards for its public pools and beaches. The role involves supervising swimming activities, teaching swimming lessons, and ensuring safety standards are upheld at all times. Ideal candidates will have relevant certifications and experience, and will contribute to maintaining a safe and clean environment for all patrons.
Under immediate supervision, performs lifeguard duties at a municipal beach or swimming pool. Teaches beginning and advanced swimming instruction. Monitors swimmers and provides emergency assistance when needed. Cleans and maintains the pool and pool area, including the filtration system. Transports youth and adults and performs related duties as required.
Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, with two summers of experience in outdoor or indoor pools in a municipal setting. Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. A valid Ohio Driver's License or State ID is required, except for those under 18 hired as Seasonal Lifeguards.
Responsibilities include ensuring patron safety, enforcing rules, maintaining cleanliness, testing pool chemistry daily, inspecting equipment, and opening/closing the pool. Proper uniform must be worn at all times. Roving between pools may be required based on operational needs.
