Job summary

Kenosha YMCA is seeking a part-time lifeguard in Kenosha, WI. The role focuses on ensuring swimmer safety, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies while maintaining certifications and daily facility checks.

The position requires current Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications, and the ability to manage up to 30 people in a pool environment. Training and supervision are provided by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years or older with valid work permit.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid certifications.
• Current Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
• 0–6 months of experience in lifeguarding or a similar role.
• Ability to supervise up to 30 pool attendees and stay alert.

Responsibilities

• Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
• Inspect the facility daily and report unsafe conditions or equipment.
• Ensure appropriate coverage; arrange substitutes as needed.
• Complete records and reports; maintain certifications and trainings.
• Read/respond to emails and calls promptly; maintain fitness levels.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge and Skills

• Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
• An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures

Responsibilities

• Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
• Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
• Takes ownership of schedule by ensuring appropriate coverage; securing substitutes when necessary, and substituting for others when needed.
• Complete records and reports.
• Maintain current certifications and consistently participate in regular in-service trainings and meetings.
• Reads and responds to system and departmental emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
• Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength and endurance).
• Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
