Job summary

Kearney Family YMCA is seeking a Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies. The role requires active surveillance, quick emergency response, and adherence to safety rules while providing a welcoming environment for all.

Ideal candidates will pass a Swim Competency test, be at least 15 years old, and stay physically and mentally prepared. Certification is preferred and training is provided by the YMCA.

Qualifications

• Must pass Swim Competency test.
• Certification preferred; training provided.
• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews emergency procedures and responds immediately.
• Attends staff meetings and in-services.
• Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
• Knows, understands, and applies safety rules for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remains calm under pressure and objective when challenged.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and health dept.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures equipment is available.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions on arrival.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes action as required.
• Supports the YMCA Annual Campaign.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
