POSITION SUMMARY:The Division of Student Life; Recreational Services is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety of all patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in Recreational Services Pools.



DUTIES TO INCLUDE:



  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.

  • Enforce policies, rules, and regulations for all Recreational Services pools.

  • Inspect the facility and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.

  • Perform maintenance and cleaning duties for general upkeep of the facility.

  • Perform pool chemical tests and complete chemical logs.

  • Complete records and reports.

  • Track and record pool user attendance.

  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.

  • Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength, and endurance).

  • Maintain lifeguarding skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis.

  • Maintain current certifications including any additional safety training.

  • Assist as needed with setup and teardown of aquatic center events.

  • Ensure appropriate pool setup for aquatic center programs.

  • Open and close pool areas during aquatic programs.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.



POSITION BASICS:


Hourly Rate/Range:$15.25/hour during Summer 2024, $12.25 during academic year



WORK SCHEDULE:


Hours:6-20 hours/week


Shift:Shift times vary between 5:45 am - 10:00 pm


Work Week:May work weekends


Additional Hours:As needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.

  • Must be able to successfully pass the pre-employment Lifeguard skills test.



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.

  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.

  • Previous Lifeguard experience.
