Responsibilities

  • Safeguards and regulates pool patron conduct and enforces pool policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Rescues patrons and performs follow-up procedures, including proper first aid.
  • Maintains daily records and writes accident reports, updating safety requirements.
  • Conducts patron swimming tests to assess ability and provides customer service.
  • Operates equipment safely and reports unsafe conditions; attends in-service training.
  • Maintains pool equipment and pool area cleanliness and security.

Job Summary

Reporting to the assigned campus leader, the Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons and assists with aquatic programs and pool operations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*

  • Safeguards and regulates conduct of pool patrons, while enforcingpool policies, rules, and regulations
  • Rescues patrons and performs appropriate follow-up procedures,including the proper use of equipment in the performance of firstaid
  • Maintains appropriate records, including participating in thepreparation of daily records, providing written reports on allaccidents, and maintaining proper updated safety requirements
  • Conducts patron swimming test to assess ability to swimindependently and unattended while providing customer service topatrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints, asnecessary
  • Performs work safely in accordance with departmental safetyprocedures, including operating equipment safely and reporting anyunsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor; attendsin-service training and instructs certain skills to staff
  • Maintains equipment and materials used within thedepartment
  • Maintains room in clean, orderly manner and provides strictsecurity and accountability
Service Excellence
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, andfollows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of theworksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of theCollege
Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the assigned campus leader

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and one (1) year’s working experiencerelated to the Essential Performance Requirements; or anyequivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Lifeguard certification
  • First aid certification
  • CPR/AED certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • At least one (1) year's working experience as a Lifeguard

  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonalrelationships including strong listening, verbal, and writtencommunication
  • Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems,including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicateproblems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work arevaried, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations basedon policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations

The employee must occasionally liftand/or move at least 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here arerepresentative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have exposure to swimming pools, chemical fumes, wet and humid conditions, and occasionally moderately loud noise. The employee may also occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
