Job summary

Reports to: Food & Beverage Manager

Summary

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool guests by monitoring activities and maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment. Lifeguards are expected to enforce safety rules and regulations, respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently, and maintain pool cleanliness and organization. The role requires individuals who are reliable, diligent, and able to make quick decisions in a high-pressure environment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Monitor pool activities to ensure a safe environment for all members and guests.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Perform water rescues when necessary and administer first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Provide supervision and assistance during swimming lessons or recreational swim times.
  • Maintain a high level of visibility around the pool area to ensure all swimmers' safety.
  • Assist in maintaining pool cleanliness, including cleaning decks, pool chairs, and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure proper signage and equipment are present and in good working order.
  • Report any maintenance issues to the Pool Manager or Director of Recreation.
  • Attend scheduled team meetings, training sessions, and perform drills for emergency preparedness.
  • Collaborate with other staff to support special events or member activities, including poolside service.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all members and guests, ensuring a positive poolside experience.
  • Responsible for the laundering of pool towels, including washing, drying, and folding.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and remain alert for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist with pool equipment.
  • Ability to swim long distances and perform rescue techniques, including water rescues and first aid.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
  • Ability to handle laundry tasks efficiently, including lifting and folding towels.
Qualifications
  • Must be certified in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR (or able to obtain certification prior to employment).

  • Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Work Conditions
  • The role is primarily based in an outdoor pool setting.
  • Lifeguards will work in a high-traffic environment and are expected to keep the pool area clean and organized at all times.
