The City of Culver City is hiring Lifeguards for the Municipal Pool under the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. This part-time role includes supervising the pool deck, enforcing rules, and performing lifesaving actions as needed.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old, with a valid work permit if under 18, and hold CPR, First-Aid, and Lifeguard Training certificates. Training courses may be offered at no cost to applicants.

The PRCS Department consists of different programs and divisions including the Recreation Division and Senior & Social Services. These divisions provide a variety of programs for children, young adults, seniors and residents with disabilities. This is a part-time position; hours will vary depending on department needs. Applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends. Vacation is not permitted during the entire summer. Attendance at all in-service training is mandatory.
Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and ability would be: experience in supervising the use and safety of swimming pools and must be at least 16 years of age. Note: The Culver City Parks Recreation and Community Services Department will be offering certification courses to applicants who are interested in this position but do not possess the required certificates. Please see details below.
At no cost to the participants, will provide entry-level applicants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Applicants who successfully complete the Lifeguard Training course will receive a certificate from American Red Coss for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED that is valid for 2 years.

Suitability for the position will be evaluated with a Performance Test and an Oral Appraisal interview. The Performance Test will measure the ability to perform life saving techniques. This test will be qualifying, i.e., it will determine who will be invited to the Oral Appraisal Interview. The interview will evaluate training, experience and personal qualifications and will be weighted at 100%.
