Role: FoundingLifecycle Marketing Manager
Company: AI Native Growth Platform for SMBs
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Our client is the growth expert every small business deserves, on a mission to give owners the edge big companies use to get ahead. Every small team has more growth potential than it has time to reach. Our client knows the business, spots the opportunities owners don't have time to chase, and gets the next move ready before they even ask, so they never miss out on business again.
Backed by the investors behind some of the most recognized names in AI, with a major strategic investor in the SMB space.
Why this role exists
Getting a busy owner to sign up is only half the job. Your job is to make sure they actually feel what our client can do for them, fast, and that they stick around. As their Lifecycle Marketer, you'll own funnel performance from the moment someone signs up through activation, engagement, and monetization. The numbers are yours, and so is everything that moves them: the data and insights, the experiments and tests, the copy and creative, all in close partnership with Product Growth. This is a hands-on builder role for someone who loves turning product data into the right message at the right moment, and moving fast on a small but ambitious team.
What you'll own
- Post-signup funnel performance & strategy: owns the numbers from signup through activation, engagement, and monetization (trial-to-paid, upgrades, and retention), and the lifecycle roadmap that moves them: what gets built, in what order, and why. Accountable for moving these metrics, not just shipping campaigns.
- Onboarding & activation: hyper-personalized, event-triggered onboarding and activation journeys that get new owners to their first real win with the product as fast as possible.
- Trial-to-paid conversion: responsible for showing value to early trial customers, and driving ARR through in and out of app experiences.
- Upgrade & expansion: usage-based campaigns that move users up plan tiers as their business grows, across email and in-product messages.
- Retention, re-engagement & win-back: spots disengagement early and builds the sequences that bring owners back before they churn, plus win-back for those who already left.
- Customer.io deliverability & list health: owns the Customer.io instance end-to-end (campaigns, templates, segments, event triggers, Liquid personalization) and keeps it organized as the program scales. Also owns sender reputation, consent, suppression, and sunset policies across our marketing and product sending domains.
- Experimentation & testing: designs, launches, and reads structured tests across email, in-app, their journey logic (subject lines, timing, channels, offers, messaging, and flows). Builds the post-signup testing cadence from scratch.
- Copy & creative: writes every lifecycle email, in-app message, and prompt, and owns the creative that goes with them, using AI to create images and briefing design as needed.
- Data & insights: in partnership with product, defines and tracks activation rate, time-to-value, engagement, trial-to-paid, upgrade rate, retention, and churn by plan tier and vertical. Owns the reporting, turns what the data shows into the next test or campaign, and feeds insights back into product, messaging, and positioning.
- Product Growth partnership: works side by side with Product Growth on in-product onboarding, the "aha moment," paywall moments, and in-app prompts. Brings the data, hypotheses, and copy, and partners on what gets built to move the funnel.
- Marketing automation & AI ops: builds and maintains the AI/automation layer of lifecycle. Think AI-assisted copy and variant testing, dynamic personalization by vertical, and automated reporting.
You'll support
- Acquisition campaigns: nurture for leads and prospects who haven't signed up yet, plus existing-user campaigns for launches and seasonal moments, in partnership with Growth.
- Referral: activating happy customers as a referral source, in partnership with Growth.
You must-have
- 5+ years of experience in lifecycle or CRM marketing at a SaaS company, ideally SMB-focused or PLG, early stage (ideally Seed or Series A)
- Proven ownership of post-signup funnel metrics (activation, engagement, and trial/freemium-to-paid conversion), with numbers to show for it.
- Hands-on with a modern lifecycle platform (Customer.io strongly preferred): event-based triggers, segmentation, and Liquid personalization. Builds campaigns yourself, not through an agency.
- Strong writer who can make a busy owner open, read, and act. Writes like a person, not a brand.
- Data fluent: comfortable in product analytics (PostHog or similar), defines lifecycle metrics, and iterates quickly on what the data says.
- Experience building lifecycle programs and infrastructure from scratch with minimal engineering support, not just optimizing existing systems.
- Working knowledge of deliverability, consent, and list hygiene.
- Demonstrated AI fluency: can show specific examples of workflows you have automated with AI
- Wants to stay hands-on in the work. No expectation of building or managing a team in the near term.
