Job description

About the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF)

Breast cancer is a complex disease with no simple solution. Research is the key to stopping it in its tracks. Founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the largest private funder of breast cancer research in the world. By investing in the best minds in science to examine every aspect of the disease from prevention to metastasis—and fostering cross‑disciplinary collaboration—BCRF is accelerating the entire field and moves us closer to the answers we urgently need to bring an end to breast cancer.

About the Role

Reporting to the Associate Director, Digital Marketing, the Lifecycle Marketing & Fundraising Manager will join the Marketing & Communications team. The Lifecycle Marketing & Fundraising Manager is responsible for leading our efforts in deepening donor engagement, improving retention, and maximizing lifetime value. This role will focus on managing donor journeys across the lifecycle—from acquisition to reactivation—through integrated marketing & fundraising campaigns, with email as the primary channel, supported by direct mail, paid social media, and SMS.

This position is based in New York, New York. BCRF currently requires staff to work on‑site a minimum of three days per week.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute lifecycle marketing strategies that support donor retention, reactivation, and increased giving.
  • Launch and grow our sustainer program in partnership with BCRF’s Development team and our integrated agency.
  • Lead the signature event email program in partnership with BCRF’s internal Development team and agency partners, QA, segmentation, deployment, and reporting.
  • Own and optimize BCRF’s holistic email marketing program, inclusive of welcome series, stewardship journeys, impact updates, appeals, and re‑engagement campaigns.
  • Build and maintain automated marketing workflows to move supporters through the donor funnel.
  • Partner with MarComms, Development, and Agency Partner teams to support multi‑channel fundraising campaigns, integrating email, direct mail, paid social media, and SMS where appropriate.
  • Conduct regular A/B testing and performance analysis to improve campaign effectiveness and donor retention.
  • Collaborate with internal BCRF team and agency partner on content strategy, ensuring all messaging is mission‑aligned, donor‑centric, and compelling across segments.
  • Work with internal Data and CRM teams to create dynamic segments based on donor behavior, giving history, engagement, and demographics.
  • Set and track KPIs, including open and click‑through rates, conversion, retention, churn, and donor lifetime value.
  • Stay informed on nonprofit fundraising trends and best practices in email marketing and supporter engagement.
About You

You are a strategic and data‑driven fundraiser and marketer with a strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising, audience segmentation, and marketing automation, and are passionate about storytelling, donor stewardship, and driving measurable results. You are a cross‑functional collaborator and an organized, proactive team player. You have a passion for the mission and work of BCRF.

In addition, you have the following qualifications and experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience in lifecycle, retention, or email marketing and fundraising, preferably in a nonprofit or fundraising‑focused role.
  • Prior experience across multiple fundraising and communications channels, including, but not limited to email, social media, and SMS.
  • Strong knowledge of email marketing platforms is required. Production, testing, and deployment skills are a plus.
  • Experience with marketing automation, segmentation, and campaign analytics.
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills with a keen sense of how to motivate action through email.
  • Ability to analyze performance data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, able to express the mission of BCRF with clarity and passion.
  • Mission‑aligned, collaborative, and comfortable working cross‑functionally.
  • Proficiency with donor databases, Raiser’s Edge/NXT preferred.
  • Familiarity with fundraising best practices and donor stewardship.
  • Experience with SMS or direct mail campaign integration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

There will be the occasional need to work extra hours evenings and weekends to fulfill the requirements of the role.

Travel

Some travel is required for this role. In addition, on occasion, in‑person events may require evening or weekend time.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full‑time exempt role. The salary range for this role is $70,000–$80,000. Our compensation package includes an exceptional benefits package focusing on employee physical, mental and financial wellness. More specifically we offer:

  • The opportunity to enroll in pre‑tax Commuter Transit, Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account and Dependent Care Account from the first day of employment.
  • 401(k), with up to a 5% match each pay period; employee contributions and any match are immediately fully vested.
  • Paid parental leave offering 18 weeks of 100% paid leave for a birthing parent and 12 weeks 100% paid leave for non‑birthing parent.
  • Paid Time Off including:
