Job summary

Farm Bureau Financial Services is seeking a Life Underwriting Associate in West Des Moines, IA. This role underwrites and approves life insurance applications within policy guidelines and performs related administrative duties requiring analysis and judgement to classify risks.

You will review medical data, coordinate underwriting activities, and provide support and training for agents as needed; strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; two years relevant experience required.
• LOMA ACS designation preferred; knowledge of Windows and MS Office preferred.
• Independent thinking, analysis and judgment required.
• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Life Underwriting Associate

What You'll Do:

As a Life Underwriting Associate, you will underwrite and approve life insurance applications within a specified age and face amount in accordance with Farm Bureau policy and procedure. You will also perform administrative and general office duties requiring some analysis and individual judgement in the procuring of information necessary to classify life insurance risks. You will also:

• Respond to and resolve customer service requests according to FBL Financial Group, Inc policies in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner for external customers, departmental staff, and other FBL personnel at all times.
• Coordinate underwriting activities, including escalations and resolve problems related to service providers.
• Provide underwriting training and resolution of problems for agents as necessary.
• Review and approve underwriting data elements including prescription profiles, medical data, motor vehicle reports and interviews.
• Initiative Attending Physician Statements based on certain medical histories and provide a summary for the underwriter.
• Review new cases/in force changes for the underwriter to set the case up for review.

What It Takes to Join Our Team:

• High school diploma or equivalent plus two years relevant experience required.
• Loma ACS designation, knowledge of Windows and MS Office preferred.
• Independent thinking, analysis and judgment required.
• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work from our office located in West Des Moines, IA(hybrid home/office work schedule).
